An automated testing system has been developed for the wheel rim inspection of various types of wheelsets. Using ultrasonic and eddy current probes, the wheelsets are inspected for longitudinal, transverse, and volumetric defects.

The collected data is stored and logged. These are then made available to higher-level systems via a database. By combining ultrasonic and eddy current testing technology with specially developed control and evaluation software, BTD provides a compact, modern, and scalable solution.
